
LONG BEACH, Calif. (TCN) — A man was booked into jail on suspicion of murder after allegedly fatally hitting and running over his father with his vehicle.
NBC Los Angeles reports police received a call March 7 regarding a family disturbance. When they arrived at a residence, they found 89-year-old William Porter pinned under a vehicle. Using a jack provided by neighbors, responding officers raised the vehicle high enough to extricate the victim and render aid until the paramedics arrived. Porter was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect was identified as Robert Porter, 50, the Long Beach Police Department said in a press release. After a preliminary investigation, authorities determined he had intentionally struck his father with the vehicle.
According to the Independent, no motive has been released by authorities.
Police say Porter remains behind bars on suspicion of murder with bail set at $2 million.
The investigation is active.
